Special Issues

Call for Special Issues

Editors of the International Journal of Multicultural Education (IJME: ISSN 1934-5267) accept special issue proposals on a rolling basis. The purpose of the special issue is to provide readers with a collection of articles on a specific topic of multicultural education that the journal has not covered substantively. We will consider one or two proposals of excellent quality a year.  The special issue will be published as a separate issue and not on a set schedule. For any inquiry, please contact Dr. Heewon Chang, Editor-in-Chief, at ijme@eastern.edu

Fall 2012 - 5th Anniversary Issue - Multicultural Education: Past, Present, and Future
The editors of the International Journal of Multicultural Education (IJME) want to take advantage of this special 5th anniversary issue to reflect on the state of the field:  where it has been, where it is, and where it is going.  To do this, we will publish manuscripts that highlight important insights about multicultural education theory, teaching, and research.  We are soliciting manuscripts that present a variety of critical perspectives by illuminating educational practices that demonstrate successful approaches to enhancing learners' multicultural knowledge, dispositions, and skills. Fall 2012 - Challenging Anti-Immigration Discourses in School and Community Contexts
In recent times, rapid migration shifts, anti-immigrant discourses in the public sphere, and harsh immigration policies have posed challenges for immigrant students, their families and their communities. This special issue calls for papers that investigate current immigration policies and practices as they relate to or inform the socio-cultural conditions and lived experiences of immigrant students, teachers, and their communities both in the United States and in international contexts.  Read more.
